FIRE BLANKET MAINTENANCE

Fire Blanket Service and Repacking Instructions

Fire Blanket Service Instructions:

The commissioning process of a fire blanket should involve a visual inspection of the fire blanket to check that it is fit for purpose. Fire blankets installed in public or commercial settings should be serviced annually. The service engineer will unpack the fire blanket from its case and inspect for any signs of damage, for example, if the blanket has been used or if there are any cuts in the material. Any frayed material will also be removed. He/she will sign and date the case and produce a certificate.

There are no legal requirements to replace fire blankets within a given time-frame, however, the general rule is to replace fire blankets in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines. This is commonly between five and seven years from date of purchase.

Fire Blanket Repacking Instructions:

1. Lay fire blanket flat with pull tapes up and to the right.

2. Fold the furthest edge to the front edge and repeat twice more.

3. Place the container with label face down and fold the blanket length-ways in a snake pattern (Z) from the bottom of the pack to the bottom of the key-hole.

4. Insert into pack with handles at base and replace cap (s).
